Field Visit to Sudarshan Chemicals
The Orchid School students had an exciting opportunity to visit one of the largest pigment manufacturers, Sudarshan Industries. The field trip aimed to provide students with firsthand experience of the various processes involved in producing different pigments.
During the visit:
- Students observed the creation and pre-mixing of pigments in labs.
- They witnessed grinding processes using beads of different sizes and learned about
machines like vibroshaker and laushaker. - The students toured areas such as the muller section for quick testing and observed
machines like the triple roll mill, rheometer, and UV instrument. - In the weatherometer room, students discovered the durability testing of metal paints.
- They saw robotic instruments in the spray room and observed items receiving a pearl
finish using mica. - Chemical testing using chromatography was demonstrated, along with the separation of
miscible liquids using the rotatory evaporator and X-ray diffraction. - The tour also included a visit to the cosmetic appliance lab, where cosmetics for sales
and promotions were made. Products included skincare, haircare, and toothpaste
items, with pigments produced by breaking and coating mica particles. Some of the
cosmetic brands created there were Sumicos, Prestige, and Sudacos.
Overall, the experience was fascinating, providing students with valuable insights and knowledge.
