At The Orchid School, we are dedicated to fostering innovative learning methods, and one such approach is our “Making Learning Visible” initiative. This event allows students to showcase their academic achievements to their parents, extending beyond traditional textbooks.
The event featured a variety of interactive activities that highlighted what students have learned throughout the academic year. Numerous stations were set up, each representing different subjects such as Mathematics, English, EVS, Marathi, and Hindi, providing parents with insights into their child’s educational journey.
Mathematics
This station invited students to engage in interactive games, including story sums, judo block activities, and manipulatives for addition and subtraction. Students also participated in games like “Number of the Day,” comparing numbers, and shared fascinating number facts with their parents.
English
At these stations, students demonstrated their language skills by explaining homophones through an engaging game. Pairs of students also presented sentence analysis concepts, discussing singular and plural forms with their parents.
Hindi and Marathi
Students showcased their understanding of ‘matra’ in both Marathi and Hindi, calling out names of items at their designated desks. An interactive activity, ‘Shabd Banana,’ allowed students to create new words, further enhancing their language skills.
EVS
At the EVS station, students conducted air experiments and shared their experiences from a recent field trip to Enchanted Gardens.
Events and Activities
They also participated in “Nine Days Nine Stories,” where they created short stories about famous female figures, enriching their understanding of notable personalities. Additionally, some students explained their insights from the “Chefs at Work” activity, which highlighted their learning methodologies.
Lastly, this year’s theme is “Peace,” where students expressed their creativity and joy by coloring various mandala artworks.
Conclusion
Making Learning Visible is more than just an event; it’s an opportunity for parents to witness their child’s comprehension of the curriculum and to bolster the child’s confidence in presenting their knowledge to an audience of parents.
