Bookmark: Bringing Literature to Life at The Orchid School

On 30 September, Grade XI students at The Orchid School organised Bookmark, an English Literary Fest that brought together books, art and creative expression. The student-led event offered an opportunity to explore literature through research, conversation and shared experiences.

Each group selected two authors or poets—one of Indian origin and another from a different nationality—and designed a stall to introduce their lives and works. The writers featured included Sudha Murthy, Mahashweta Devi, Roald Dahl, William Wordsworth, Jane Austen, Maya Angelou and J. K. Rowling.

Creative displays, literary games, discussions and handmade bookmarks invited visitors to engage with the world of books. Students combined artistic ideas with literary exploration, finding engaging ways to share what they had learned.

At The Orchid School, such experiences help students develop a meaningful relationship with learning. Researching writers and their works encourages curiosity and introduces different cultural perspectives. Working together to plan and present a stall builds collaboration, responsibility and confidence, while discussions provide opportunities to listen, question and express ideas.

Bookmark encouraged students to look beyond examination marks and discover the pleasure of exploring and sharing literature. They took ownership of their learning, turning their understanding into experiences others could enjoy.

Through initiatives like Bookmark, the school continues to nurture thoughtful readers, confident communicators and creative learners. The fest celebrated the enduring place of books in our lives—as sources of knowledge, imagination, comfort and connection.
