Cooking is an art. It requires a precise mixture of ingredients, seasoned with spices, cooked at the right temperature with love and patience. A kitchen is a learning lab for children that can involve all of their senses. The third graders had fun while kneading, tossing, pouring, smelling, cutting, and feeling. They had a exciting experience while making Modaks “The Sweet Dumplings” for their favourite Ganpati Bappa.

Right from kneading the dough to stuffing the modaks and frying them, they did it all by themselves. They pretended to be master chefs while working on it and the job was well accomplished. It was delightful to see students engaged in myriad sensory experiences.

The activity was integrated with subjects like Maths, Science, Hindi, and Marathi. Teachers discussed the origin of the delicacy, the nutritive value, the proportion of the items involved ended with the process writing. In all, it was a fantastic learning experience for third graders.
