Class VII has been doing an integrated Project on Warkari tradition since 2015, as part of their syllabus. Since we are based in Pune, there is no better way to connect with the warkaris and get first hand information about them than to visit the Palkhi procession.
This year the students were taken for the Palkhi procession on 26th June 2019. They were accompanied by the Class Teachers, Subject Teachers and CPVs.
Earlier during the week, the students had collected dry food items, water etc for distribution to the warkaris.
Students participated in interviewing the waris focusing on knowing more about the local culture, the age old beliefs and traditions of Maharashtra.
It was impressive to see the students relate to their textbook lessons about Warkari tradition and listen to the abhangs they learnt from their Marathi teachers, directly from the Wari's.
It was indeed a unique experience for students, meeting and interacting with the Warkaris gave the learning a new meaning. This was true learning beyond classrooms.
Students came back with an enriching experience and narrated their experiences.
Our Marathi teacher, Aditi Di has given complete details of the trip below.
