“Why do you go away? So that you can come back. So that you can see the place you came from with new eyes and extra colors. And the people there see you differently, too. Coming back to where you started is not the same as never leaving.”
? Terry Pratchett, A Hat Full of Sky
This quote resonates the philosophy of our school, that of creating opportunities for our students to explore the world and be rooted to their country for the right reasons. Our student/faculty exchange program to Sweden is an endeavor towards shaping our students to be globally competent and locally rooted citizens of tomorrow.
10th Grade Students TO Visit Sweden the journey continues……
On 26th April’13, the second group of 18 students of Grade X with 3 teachers will visit Gotland in Sweden.
They are going to Donner Gymnasiet, (now known as Guteskolan South)a higher secondary school, on an exchange program. They will get to experience a new culture, the traditions, value system, and make friends across borders. The students will see and study the rich heritage sites of Gotland’s medieval town, and the issues concerning conservation while comparing and drawing parallel to the sites in India The group will do hands on programme at Donner’s media studies department and learn to document their experiences through powerful and creative visuals that will highlight the learning.
The group will also be visiting Guteskolan North ( secondary school and under the same banner as Guteskolan South) so that our students have same age group and class level for interaction and presentation. Our teachers then have a wide spectrum of classes to be in for observation and teach for experience.
Our students will also visit Cyber Gymnasiet, a higher secondary school at Stockholm so they get 3 school experiences all in all.
This time the group is preparing presentations on the following topics:
1.India as an emerging economy. Its challenges and opportunities
2.India, China- who will make it? i.e. who will emerge as a powerful economy?
3.India and plurality – the existence of groups with different ethnic, religious, or political backgrounds within one society
4.Different Religions of India. How do they co – exist?
5.India and emerging youth- wealth of the nation
6.Urbanization and westernization- does it lead to inclusive growth?
They will be making their presentation to their counterparts in Sweden. This in itself is a great learning experience, team work, brainstorming, sourcing out information, presenting it in a logical and relevant manner. It helps to build their confidence and self-esteem.
